In today’s fast-paced, mass-produced world, the beauty of handmade products offers something exceptional: individuality, sustainability, and a deep-rooted connection to culture. The charm of handcrafted goods lies in their imperfections, with each piece telling its unique story. Recognizing this, Stories of the Soil brings together the world of art, tradition, and craftsmanship to celebrate and promote artisans’ efforts, dedication, and heritage.

A Passion for Handmade Craft

Founded in October 2021 by three passionate women—Maleha Jaffer, Saba Nadeem, and Ayesha Imtiaz—Stories of the Soil is the result of diverse yet complementary backgrounds. Maleha Jaffer, with over 14 years of experience in finance and media, and having lived in Pakistan, Singapore, Nigeria, and the UAE, brings her expertise in financial management and media promotion to uplift artisans by helping them improve their commercial skills and reach a wider audience. Saba Nadeem, an artist herself with a degree in illustration and graphic design from a renowned art institute, brings her creative attention to detail, infusing each product with unique artistic elements. Ayesha Imtiaz, an entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in business management, contributes her strategic business expertise to ensure the sustainable growth and success of Stories of the Soil.

Together, Maleha, Saba, and Ayesha formed Stories of the Soil to showcase unique handmade homeware and fashion accessories from artisans worldwide, particularly in Dubai and the GCC region. Their brand’s ethos is simple yet powerful: to celebrate artisans, their heritage, and the beauty of handmade products that tell stories of culture, history, and tradition. Their platform aims to provide a global market for these artisans, empowering them to preserve their traditional crafts while creating a sustainable livelihood for themselves and their communities.

Founded in October 2021 by three passionate women—Maleha Jaffer, Saba Nadeem, and Ayesha Imtiaz—Stories of the Soil results from diverse yet complementary backgrounds. Overcoming Challenges and Crafting a Niche

Stories of the Soil encountered various challenges as a new venture. While the business setup in Dubai went smoothly, raising awareness about the value of handcrafted goods compared to machine-made alternatives was difficult.Although the quality and the uniqueness of each product spoke for itself, theyhad to put significant effort into social media marketing andparticipating in exhibitions to spread their message and showcase their curated collection, which includesstunning ceramic table ware and home decor and for the fashion enthusiasts it includes  intricately hand embroidered scarves, calligraphic shrugs and unique jewelry.

Each product is carefully selected to blend tradition with contemporary designs, ensuring it resonates with modern tastes while staying true to its roots. Another major challenge has been managing the logistics of transporting fragile handmade ceramics without damage. Despite these obstacles, the brand has made strides in refining its processes and continuing to build its niche in the premium handcrafted market.

Global Expansion and Exciting Milestones

As Stories of the Soil looks to the future, the focus is on expanding both its product line and global reach. The founders aim to collaborate with artisans from across the world, bringing even more unique craftsmanship into their collections. This vision aligns with their broader goal of celebrating global culture while preserving and promoting traditional craftsmanship. Sustainability also plays a key role in the brand’s future. The founders are dedicated to sourcing eco-friendly materials and refining their practices to ensure minimal environmental impact.

With plans to enter new markets and explore regions that appreciate handmade products, Stories of the Soil is not just growing but creating meaningful connections between customers and artisans globally. As they continue their journey, Stories of the Soil remains committed to their mission: to tell stories through craftsmanship, one beautiful product at a time. Stories of the Soil is thrilled to announce their participation at the prestigious Global Village 2024, starting with a stall at the Pakistan Pavilion. As the brand grows, they aim to have a stall in each of the pavilions, representing artisans from all participating countries, celebrating Dubai’s incredible diversity.
